  • 원인은 확실히 모른다. 사람 헤르페스바이러스-6(Human herpes virus-6), 또 사람 헤르페스바이러스-8(Human herpes virus-8) 감염으로 생긴다고 추정한다. 
  • 봄 가을철에 더 생기기 쉽고 
  • 15~25세 연령층 사춘기 아이들과 청년들에게서 더 잘 생긴다. 
  • 둥글거나 타원형 피부 반점이 피부 어느 부위든지 가리지 않고 생길 수 있다. 
  • 이런 피부 발진이 한 개만 날 수 있다. 이런 피부 발진을 원발성 발진이라고 한다. 
  • 이 원발성 피부 발진은 70%에서 볼 수 있다.
  • 발병 후 약 5~10일경 피부 발진이 몸통, 상지에 대칭적으로 날 수 있다. 
  • 전형적 피부 발진은 타원형이거나 둥글고 직경이 1cm정도 된다. 
  • 몸통이 조금 가려울 수 있다. 
  • 보통 4~14주 후에 자연히 없어진다. 
  • 코르티코스테로이드제 연고 등으로 치료할 수 있다. 
  • 경구용 Acyclovir로 치료하기도 하고 Erythromycin으로 치료하기도 한다. 
  • 어루러기, 2기 매독, 물방울양 건선, 아토피성 피부염, 약물 피부발진, 지루성 피부염, 급성 태선모양 비강진(Pityriasis lichenoides acuta) 등과 감별 진단한다(출처; Pediatric Annals, October8, 2008. p.667).
